Biography
Wing-Commander Alfred Horace Steele (AHS) Steele-Perkins (1886-1963) was appointed as the Director of the newly-formed Air Raid Precautions (ARP) Department of the Hong Kong Government in 1938-1941. He was responsible for the massive task of building air raid shelters, air raid tunnels, conducting blackout exercises, educating the public on air raid precautions and civil defence and recruiting and training ARP wardens to prepare Hong Kong for the possible aerial bombing caused by the Sino-Japanese War already began in Mainland China at the time.

The Collection, comprising mainly photographs and private papers of his wife, Mrs Gwen Steele-Perkins. Materials include photographs (totalling 37), letters (152 sheets), bills and receipts (28 sheets) and miscellaneous items such as identity card, manuscript, newspaper clipping etc. covering the years 1908-1960 with bulks in the periods of 1930s and 1940s.
