A Draft Article for Spectator by Evelyn Waugh
An original 3-page manuscript draft by world renowned author Evelyn Waugh (1903-66), a British writer regarded as the most brilliant satirical novelist. His most noteworthy novels include Decline and Fall (1928), A Handful of Dust (1934) and the most popular Brideshead Revisited (1945). This signed manuscript is of an article subsequently published in the Spectator on 8th July 1955 entitled ‘Awake, my Soul! It is a Lord’.
A Leaf with Luke 1:26-35, Book of Hours (Illuminated Manuscript)
Single columns of 16 lines of Latin in gothic hand. Recto with five-line miniature of the winged Ox of St Luke marking the opening of a reading from his Gospel narrating the Annunciation ‘in that time the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth…’. Verso without any decoration.
