Harold Thomas Matches Collection, 1941-1948.
Scope and Contents
The bulk of the collection consists of reports related to Harold Matches' police work from 1947 to 1948, including police statements books, murder case files, and diary books. The collection also includes photographs taken in Stanley Internment Camp, a few old Hong Kong pictures, group photos of CID Kowloon City Police Station, and family & wedding photos. Others are: correspondence in Stanley Internment Camp; police ID cards; temporary passport issued in Stanley Internment Camp in 1945; and a Hong Kong police winter jacket.

Biographical / Historical
Harold Thomas Matches was born in Gibraltar on 22 August 1911. At that time his father was working in the Royal Naval Dockyard in Gibraltar. A few years later the family returned to UK and Harold's father was then working at the Royal Naval dockyard at Rosyth in Scotland. He was a British police officer who served in the Hong Kong Police Force from 1935 to 1948 with service number A87. He worked in the Water Police and CID.
