Biographical / Historical

Ray Cordeiro (1924–2023), professionally known as "Uncle Ray," was a legendary Hong Kong broadcaster and the Guinness World Record holder for the "World’s Most Durable DJ." Of Portuguese descent and educated at St. Joseph’s College, he began his career at Radio Rediffusion in 1949 before joining Radio Hong Kong (RTHK) in 1960. He is best remembered for his iconic program, All the Way with Ray, which debuted in 1970 and ran for over five decades, making him a central figure in introducing Western pop music to Hong Kong and interviewing international icons like The Beatles. A recipient of both the MBE and the Silver Bauhinia Star, Cordeiro retired in 2021 as the "Grandfather of Pop Music," leaving behind a profound legacy in the city’s cultural and broadcasting history.
